The work on the Freeland Drive resurfacing project was delayed from last year due to a lack of funds from the Ohio Public Works Commission. It came this spring, starting in early May and finishing on May 11th. The work consisted of concrete curb repairs, stabilization of the existing base, and a new asphalt resurfacing.

What does the mystery windmill do?
Everybody who has recently passed by Rowland Nature Preserve has spotted its stark lonely windmill. The question is 'what does it do?'. The windmill's turning provides aeration that aids fish survival in the nature preserve lake. A hose leads from that windmill to selected outlets in the lake.
On May 3, 2012 Elyria Township Road Department Superintendent Tim VanDyke, crew assistant Kevin Burns and Elyria Township Trustee Rob Scheithauer installed the system

Included in the pictures are six bat houses that they installed on the north and east side of the lake. The lift that they rented was unable to get through the soft mud holes to get them around the four corners of the lake. The bottom of the bat houses are 20 feet in the air.
There are also two pictures of goose eggs that are right off the path on the north side, 3/4 of the way down. Hopefully the animals won't get to them and we'll have four baby geese kicking around. |

Elyria Township Fire Department Basketball team aids in local food kitchen fundraiser
The Elyria Township Fire Department’s newly created basketball team participated in the First Annual Firefighter Shootout at Wellington High School on Sunday April 1 2012. Eight teams participated in the pro gram with donations benefitting Well-Help Inc., a local food kitchen.
The Township team played Wellington in the first round . The game was extremely competitive with the score neck and neck the entire game. Elyria Township was ahead by three points with three minutes to go but Wellington came on strong to win in the end.
The team then played Oberlin Fire in another competitive game coming up short in the end. The Township should be proud of the its newly created basketball team. Look for them next year.
