Below is the wording of an Elyria Township Memorandum of Understanding that the township trustees signed with Republic Services Inc. that returned bulk item pickup to the township beginning March 1st 2010.
A. Supply a 96 or 68 gallon cart for trash services to all residentail subscribers within the boundaries of Elyria Township. Carts will be priced according to size and will remain the property of the company supplying the service.
B. Supply a two (2) bag limited hand pick-up service for qualified senior citizens.
C. Supply a 65 gallon cart for curbside recycling services to all residential solid waste customers who subscribe to a company’s solid waste services in Elyria Township. Residential curbside recycling will include #1 and #2 plastics, aluminum and bi-metal cans, glass bottles and jars, newspaper, magazines, junk mail, paper board and cardboard and will be collected weekly or a minimum of four times per month per participating household.
D. Collect bulk items from individual households who subscribe to solid waste collection service the first full workweek of each month beginning in March 2010. Bulk items will include washers, dryers, household furniture, carpeting, television sets, refrigerators, freezers, window a/c units, dehumidifiers (minus Freon), tables and chairs and up to 3-32 gallon cans or 6 bags of additional household trash. Christmas trees picked up the first full week of January. Not permitted at the curb: large car parts, batteries, liquids, extra bags or cans of trash except on bulk week. Note: Contractors are responsible for removal of building materials and debris.
E. Contract for solid waste services with individual subscribers. Residents will be billed on a quarterly basis.
In addition, beginning in April through October, there will be a dumpster at the township complex on a trial basis.
The dumspter will be for township residents only. The area will be under video surveillance. Materials must be placed in the dumpster and not on the ground. Violators will be prosecuted. If you have large items (couches, chairs, etc. ) you may call the road garage and set a time during work hours to get help unloading them. Materials not permitted: concrete, asphalt, hazardous chemicals (such as fuels), weed killers, antifreeze, oils, absolutely no tires, household garbage and brush.
