Harold Wilson, Elyria Township Zoning Inspector, has announced his retirement effective January 31st, 2010. Harold, who lives in Elyria Township, is a 35 year resident of Lorain County and has been the township zoning inspector since 2000. He also will retire from the Lorain County Engineer’s Department, a job that gave him an opportunity to be familiar with all of the county’s 18 townships. Harold says thanks to Elyria Township residents for their years co-operation, and that the trustees have been good to him as well, “the time has come to move on and pass the torch to John (John Fletcher, the new Township Zoning Inspector).” Harold’s dream is to move to property he owns in southern Ohio to garden, hunt and be near his children and grandchildren. It sounds like a great plan and it’s certain many here in the township wish him well.

The township trustees would also like to announce the appointment of John Fletcher, the new Township Zoning Inspector. John has been a township resident for 12 years. He is a neighborhood watch captain in the Elyria Township Neighborhood Watch Group. In the past, when John was asked to assist in different township projects, he came through. He also was appointed to the Township Advisory Committee, but forced to resign due to a personal schedule problem. John is a retired US Navy, Chief Petty Officer and is currently in a second career in health care. He is looking forward to serving the community of Elyria Township.
To contact John: office phone/fax is (440) 324-3664, cell phone (440) 787-7161 or e-mail him at

We want to improve our township's image and let everyone know about us. The Chronicle-Telegram has a section titled ‘YOURTOWN’ in the Sunday edition. They are pretty flexible about what's published. It can be upcoming events, community advisories, Girl Scout or Boy Scout news, military news about a township residents or fundraisers. Basically, the rule of thumb is : "Will the readers find the information informative or entertaining to read?". They love submitted photos. That puts an item right to the top of the list because they love putting their readers in the paper.
Please send your article and/or photo to Lisa Roberson’s email:
