Solid Waste Management District events postponed PDF Print E-mail

Advisory Committee artSolid Waste Management District regrets to inform interested parties that they must postpone indefinitely the following collection events:

  1. Household Hazardous Waste Collection II, originally scheduled for September 26th in two locations.
  2. E-Scrap IV (Computers, Electronics, & TV’s), originally scheduled for October 10th.
  3. All three remaining Fluorescent Bulb & Ballast collections, originally scheduled for the second Tuesday of each month in October, November, and December.

However, you will not be forced to hold all your materials for an extended period. The District has been working for quite some time on a general alternative to these one-day collection events, and it is almost ready…

A large building in Elyria, recently acquired by the Lorain County Port Authority, is now being remodeled to include, among its several uses, a permanent drive-through Collection Center for the Solid Waste Management District.

This Center will be set up to accept all the materials previously collected at one-day type events, and more, as it develops. More importantly, it will be open on a set schedule, all through the year. So there will no longer be a need to mark the calendar with a specific date, and then wait in a long line to dispose of your materials.

More information will be available in the weeks to come, as the remodeling progresses, and equipment is purchased, and other details are settled. The actual opening of the Center will take place within a few months.
