Lorain County, in cooperation with the Elyria Township Board of Trustees, will be inspecting storm sewer outfalls throughout the townships beginning on June 17th and lasting for approximately one month.  Representatives of the Engineering firm of K. E. McCartney (KEM) & Associates have been hired by the County to perform these inspections.

The KEM inspectors may have to access private property along the storms and ditches to perform the inspections.  All KEM representatives will be wearing safety vests and will have proper identification and information on the screenings that are being performed.

If you have any questions please call Virginia Haynes at 440-328-2362 or a Township Trustee.

altOn June 10th the Ohio Division of Wildlife, Department of Natural Resources was invited out to the Rowland Nature Preserve to do a short survey on the population of the fish and their sizes.  The two men from the Ohio Division of Wildlife were Curt Wagner from the Akron office and the Lorain County Game Warden, Randy White.

Their boat has electric probes on the front that temporarily shock the fish so they can net them and place them in the fish tank in the center of the boat.  They were measured for size.  The fish that were netted today were Golden Shiners, Large Mouth Bass, Blue Gills and Pumpkin Seed Sun Fish.  The majority of the fish netted were approximately three to six inches long.  A couple of the Large Mouth Bass were 12 to 17 inches long.  All the fish netted were returned back to the lake.

At the next township meeting on July 1st, the Board of Trustees will be discussing a management program with the Ohio Division of Wildlife to help manage the fish at the Preserve.

Rowland Nature Preserve Trails Named PDF Print E-mail

altThe Elyria Township Board of Trustees named the nine trails at the Rowland Nature Preserve. The signs are on order; they'll have a brown background with white reflective letters similar to our green road signs. We should have them in three weeks or so. Once they're installed a copy of the trail names and lengths will be attached to some of the sign posts.

Thanks to Mr. Billy Rowland, there will be a new sign installed at the Murray Ridge Road Preserve entrance. Look for it in approximately eight weeks.

On Pride Day, Saturday, May 18, 2013, the observation deck received its first coat of waterseal thanks to the trustees and road department.

Boats without gas engines are allowed on the lake. You must carry your watercraft to the lake because no vehicles are allowed past the blacktop entrance gate.  Use the walking trail on the left and put your boat in on the east side of the observation deck.
