Elyria Township Fire Department Basketball team aids in local food kitchen fundraiser
The Elyria Township Fire Department’s newly created basketball team participated in the First Annual Firefighter Shootout at Wellington High School on Sunday April 1 2012. Eight teams participated in the pro gram with donations benefitting Well-Help Inc., a local food kitchen.
The Township team played Wellington in the first round . The game was extremely competitive with the score neck and neck the entire game. Elyria Township was ahead by three points with three minutes to go but Wellington came on strong to win in the end.
The team then played Oberlin Fire in another competitive game coming up short in the end. The Township should be proud of the its newly created basketball team. Look for them next year.

Elyria Township fire department awarded grant
If you drive by the Elyria Township property on the east side of Murray Ridge Road, south of the turnpike, you may notice a large concrete slab. Poured on October 22nd, it is waiting for the delivery of fire training trailers on the week of November 20th.
The project began in 2010 when Assistant Elyria Township Fire Chief Tim Midkiff and firefighter Lt. Justin Knapp wrote a proposal for the training trailers to the federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. Getting these grants is a very competitive process. Their fire training trailers proposal awarded the township over $195,000. The township’s financial obligation would only be 5% of the entire total.
