Bob passed away at the age of 83 years old. I believe Bob lived multiple lives and had many careers. I think that is what kept him going for many, many years. The grass certainly did not under Bob’s feet. He did not waste his time or delay in doing anything. He was always busy. Bob and his wife Bonnie provided voluntary and paid services for the residents of Elyria and Elyria Township for a long time. They both served their community well. Bob was on the Elyria City School Board for many years and served as President for two terms. He served as the Elyria Township Clerk and retitled to Elyria Township Fiscal Officer since 2008. Mr. Repas was involved in many projects for Elyria Township including the nature preserve, joining NOPEC, and the sale of the cell tower to purchase a new engine for the fire department. Bob was certainly a friend to the fire department as well as each and every resident in Elyria Township. He will be sorely missed by all.
All of this praise is not to say Bob was perfect. He was a man, a human, and therefore made mistakes just as we all do in life. The great thing about Bob was he was humble enough to admit when he made a mistake and to learn from it. As many of you know, he was not always the easiest person to work with. This may be a shock to some, but Bob was a little on the stubborn side. Bob was also a negotiator and was willing to compromise for the better good of the people. He cared deeply for his family, coworkers, neighbors, and his fellow-man.
Robert J. Repas is more than qualified and deserving of being inducted into the Elyria Township Hall of Fame. Thank you, Mr. Repas, for your friendship and professionalism. Rest in peace.
